What's that, Gatsby?
To interrupt the drive from Boston to Philadelphia we decided to spend the morning in Newport, Rhode Island. Yeah, it's a bit hoity-toity and touristy, but it was a fun place to stop anyways. First stop was the cliff walk that runs along the top of a cliff (thus the creative name) between the ocean and the old mansion homes that line the cliff. Although there are several miles of pathways along the cliff edge, we decided to take an abbreviated stroll - maybe a half mile or so - from the 40 steps at Narragansett Avenue to The Breakers mansion (think "The Great Gatsby"). Below you can tell that it was morning while we were there...all the kids are smiling still!
This is the view from one of the many outpockets along the cliffwalk
The girls really wanted to have their picture taken here in front of this particular mansion....in reality one of them saw the bench, the others followed, and then one of them said "Dad, take a picture of us" until they all joined in and became so cacophonous that I had to take the picture to appease them. Gotta love Halle the poser...bank on it in almost every single photo!
And at the end of the walk...tired and it wasn't even 11am yet. :)
While in Newport we also stopped at a glass blowing shop on Thames Road and watched the creation of a platter. We stopped at the Aquidneck Lobster Company as well to let the girls see what an 18 pound lobster looks like. Turns out, it's as big as Kimball. Meagan was quite enthralled with the idea that people eat something as big as her little brother. Hope it didn' plant any ideas....
